On March 2, 2024, Julia Havice competed in the PIAA District III Girls swim meet. Her resilient endeavor qualified her for states.
Havice won several medals, including a gold in the 100 Free. In that race she set a school record with a time of 51.47. Her efforts also earned her a 2nd place finish in the 50 Free with a time of 23.64.
She went on to PIAA Championships, where she placed 9th and 12th in her two races. Her high school swimming career ended with an All-State Honors.
“Ten year old me would have never imagined that that simple goal would lead to so many opportunities. Swimming has completely changed my life in every aspect possible.”
Her mom was a swimmer when she first started the sport. The only goal in mind was to beat her mother’s times from when she swam.
Havice’s unflagging efforts in the water is sending her to the University of Rhode Island – where she plans to further herself academically and athletically.
“I have plans to swim all throughout my four years of college. I do not have plans to go beyond that at the moment, but I would still definitely hop in the pool for some laps from time to time once I graduate.”
