We are all aware of the large murals that decorate the halls of Dallastown, but the newest work has a bit of a special twist.
Mr Stauffer, a Dallastown science teacher and Dallastown graduate Jennileigh Krebs who currently works in the cafeteria have been working on a new mural in the Science hallway of DHS.
Krebs was a full time custodian at DHS, working 12 to 16 hours a day. She was in that position at our school until recently when she switched to her role with Chartwells. .
“Mr stauffer and I spoke a few times and 1 of the times I told him I had his father as my biology teacher when I went here, we shared a few stories about his father and during that I mentioned that I used to get extra credit for my drawings in his class,” Krebs said.
Stauffer had mentioned to Krebs that he has had an idea to do a mural in the science hallway for years, dealing with Pennsylvania state wildlife.
“We spoke about my art and I showed him a reel I made with music to a painting I did called metamorphosis, the life cycle of a monarch butterfly,” Krebs stated.
Krebs presented the idea she had for the mural and Stauffer loved it so he decided she was the right person to do it.
Although Krebs works at DHS she doesn’t always have time to work on the mural. The painting job is volunteer work.
“I am the only artist working on it, but because of being a single mother of 6, working the 2 jobs at the school, “ She said.
She started the mural over the summer and the outline of the state of Pennsylvania can be seen along with some of the details at this point.
She even got some recognition for the mural.
“ I was on the Channel 8 news this past August presenting the mural,” Krebs explained.
Krebs was always interested in art.
“I’ve loved art and drawing my entire life and always did it for free. I would love to do it for a living but have never had any opportunity until now. I took 1 art class in college, really studied physical education, coaching, and teaching special needs,”She said.
She hopes to finish by the end of the school year, but that is dependent upon finding time.
“I love art and have always wanted to be a muralist and hope the school allows me to finish this passion project. I thank Mr. Stauffer for believing in me,”Krebs stated.
