Winning is something everybody loves.
“The most rewarding part is probably the feeling of pride after you play really well whether you win or lose,” one Dallastown tennis player stated.
While the season is over for most, Elizabeth Tony is still playing.
Tony is a senior at Dallastown Area High School and is a valuable part of the tennis team.
It is difficult to find something to enjoy growing up, and many kids tend to bounce from sport to sport.
Tony found a love for tennis.
“My dad played tennis and then he made me play tennis and I just stuck with it,” Tony said.
She has played tennis for nearly 10 years and has been on varsity all four years.
Tony has played singles and doubles; performing well in both.
Both have their perks, but Tony prefers doubles.
“I think I prefer doubles just because you have a partner out there with you and when it is somebody you enjoy playing with it makes it very easy to have a lot of fun and have a good time while you are playing,” Tony said.
She has won many awards during her four years of high school tennis.
Freshman year, she won the character counts award, and the team won the division.
Sophomore year Tony and her doubles partner, Chloe Isset, won third in the county double tournament.
This year, her senior year, she placed third in the county singles tournament, the first girl on the team to do so in about five years.
Tony and her doubles partner, Brooke Schiavone, placed 2nd in the county doubles tournament, 2nd in the district three tournament, and advanced to the state tournament this year.
So what meant most to her in her career?
“The most important one is my third place county doubles medal from sophomore year because the beginning of the season did not go how I expected it to but I ended up getting to be partners with one of my favorite people and we had an extremely successful season,” Tony claims.
She found this accomplishment to be one of her favorites.
With a well-decorated high school tennis career, head coach and former tennis player, Aaron Hare, is “super proud of her for making it to States for doubles this year.”
Tony and her doubles partner played on Friday, Nov. 1 in the state tournament.
“It’s a great ending to her high school tennis career,” coach Hare says
In the future, Tony plans to go to college to become a physical therapist while continuing to play tennis on the side.
“I plan to play club wherever I attend college just to stay active and meet new people,” Tony says
This will ensure the years of hard work, dedication, and lasting memories will be continued.
