In 2023, the Dallastown senior class officers, Paige Langmead, Ethan Wang, Kayla Sebation and Kylie Sciuto came up with the idea of a Senior Sunrise at the beginning of senior year and a Senior Sunset at the end.
“I got the idea originally from a friend at another school. She talked about how close it made her and her classmates, so I wanted to bring something like that to our senior class,” Paige Langmead, 2023 senior class president, said.
These events are simple. Seniors gather with blankets and snacks and share time together.
These moments act as a way to have fun with your classmates, commemorating your last year of high school, starting then coming to an end.
On Friday, August 23, 2024, seniors of the Class of 2025 all came together on the football field to have their Senior Sunrise.
They arrived before the sunrise, sat, ate donuts, and watched the sun come up, took photos, welcoming in their senior year.
“I had fun with my friends, it was one of the last first moments of senior year,” senior Abby Kusmierski said.
Now, the school year is beginning to wrap up, and for seniors, their last high school moments are beginning.
The Senior Sunset will be taking place on Friday, May 30, at 7 pm on the grass soccer field.
“The sunset is a great way to celebrate the ‘sun setting’ on their high school experience,” Senior Class advisor Mrs. French said.
French and Mrs. Epps, the other class adviser, who, along with the senior class officers, Jackson Aiosa, Carter Lewis, Suresh Venkataramen, and Allison Yetich, have made the sunrise and sunset possible this year.
While attending the sunset is not mandatory for senior students, it’s a way to be with your friends and have fun one last time before graduation.
Senior class president Jackson Aiosa would like to see the entire senior class attend the sunset.
“As our final year at Dallastown winds down, it’s important that we take a moment, every once in a while, to appreciate our high school experience. It will be a celebration of all that has been accomplished over our time at the high school. Everyone should attend senior sunset to make one last happy memory at Dallastown,” Aiosa said.
Seniors who attend will receive food like pizza, snacks, and drinks.

During this time, students will be able to hang out with friends, play yard games that classmates bring, take pictures, and watch the sunset.
The students may be the ones mostly participating, but the class advisors love this night as well.
“Our favorite part of the Senior Sunset is just seeing students spend quality time together as a class. We’ve watched high school seniors playing Duck, Duck, Goose; singing and dancing; having impromptu sprint races – just innocent fun,” French said.
As the date approaches, more information and a sign-up will be sent out to the seniors.
