The week that every Dallastown student patiently awaits is approaching: Homecoming.
Student Council has announced the theme for this year’s homecoming dance as A Waltz in Time. The dance will take place on Saturday, Oct.11, in the school’s gymnasium.
Student Council adviser Mrs. Huyett explained the process of selecting the theme.
“Student Council members create various presentations that they deliver to our council members with ideas for the theme. We then, as a council, discuss each theme and the members vote to decide,” Huyett said.
There are many traditions that take place during the week of Homecoming.
It all starts with selecting a court.
At some point in September, senior students will be asked to nominate classmates for who they think would be best for homecoming court.
Tickets will become available for purchase starting on Sept.15 through the 26. The Google form for guests outside of Dallastown was available starting Sept. 4 and can be picked up in room 121 or with Mr. Hostetter before or after school only.
Next, the annual powderpuff game will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 8, in the stadium at 7 p.m.
The annual powderpuff game is when students play a fun and competitive game of flag football.
The underclassman (9-10) girls play against the upperclassman (11-12) girls, and the senior football players are on the sidelines acting like cheerleaders. It is something that many people sign up for and look forward to during the busy week.
Currently, we don’t know what our spirit week will look like. Having to pick themes for that week can be very difficult.
The council tries to include fun and interactive spirit days, comfortable dress down days, and themes that will be approved by the administration.
Spirit week will be Oct. 6-10, and it should be announced sometime in the week before.
The student section theme for the homecoming football game is USA, and the Wildcats will be playing Dover.
At that same football game, it will be announced who Dallastown’s 2025 Homecoming King and Queen are.
The homecoming dance is known to be very well decorated every year, and we have our student council to thank for that.
Student Council President Sophia Long gave some insight into what the dance decorations will look like.

“As you walk into the school, we will have fabric draped across the ceiling to give that elegant look. Then we will have a big fountain in the lobby and a garden look with it. Then, as you walk into the gym there will be pillars with vines all around it. Then in the cafeteria just a cute colored tablecloth and flower centerpieces.”
