Not many high school students dream of returning to their school after college, but Dallastown senior Akira Sorrell is not among them.
She plans to attend Millersville University to pursue both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education, with the goal of becoming a math teacher at Dallastown.
Teaching had always been a backup career for Sorrell, but after joining the Educators Rising club, she gained hands-on experience that ensured her passion for the profession.
Sorrell serves as the President of the Educators Rising club at Dallastown and is also the state vice president for Pennsylvania.
These leadership roles have significantly influenced her decision to pursue a career in teaching.
Several of her past teachers have inspired her along the way, including Miss Sweitzer and Mrs. Gaynor, who have played influential roles in her journey.
“I ultimately just want to inspire future generations and just make sure that they know that I’m always there and I’ll be like that safe person for them.”
This is a Humans of Dallastown feature. Our goal is simple: to make a large school smaller by highlighting the unique voices within it.
