Terry Choate- Softball

Terry Choate has been coaching softball for 27 years at both the collegiate and high school level. But, this is only his second season at Dallastown as head coach.

He played baseball in high school, but chose to continue his wrestling career in college at Ricks/BYU College in Idaho. Choate coaches alongside Jen Messner, John Parker, Scott Hicks, and Tracey Higgins.

As a coaching staff, Choate expects the athletes to give their 100%, “control the controllables”, play hard every pitch, make sure they support each other. “Every time I see a young student athlete smile and become successful it makes me happy,” Choate adds. “So I have many great memories [from coaching].”

After losing a season alongside Dallastown’s other spring sports, Choate stated that “It did not have any effect on me as a coach, [but] I know it was very disappointing for our girls and our one senior.” As for this season, Choate recognizes that a struggle for the players is wearing masks while playing and not knowing when the school may shut down due to COVID-19, causing the team to lose essential practices.

Despite the unknown, Choate and the team have collective goals to work hard and win the division, district, and state championship while keeping grades up in school to a team average of 3.7.
