Katrina Wolfe, sophomore, is one of Dallastown’s eight PMEA All-State Musicians. She plays the cello.

Sophomore Katrina Wolfe says, “I grew up in a very musical family and went to all of my older sisters’ concerts.… When I was of an age where I could start playing, I did.”

This is Wolfe’s second year participating in PMEA festivals.

Last year, she made it to Districts but could not advance due to the fact that freshmen aren’t given the opportunity to advance.

“This year, I placed third in Districts, second in Regions, and got to States (they did not seat for States this year),” said Wolfe.

For the past nine years, Wolfe has been playing cello and taking private lessons.

Her current teacher is Sara Male, who lives in Lancaster, but she had previously taken from Jan Nemshick.

In addition to cello, Wolfe has taken piano lessons for one and a half years and sang in the school’s choir since intermediate school.

“My favorite orchestral piece is Dvork’s New World Symphony,” Wolfe said. “I was introduced to that in the York Youth Symphony Orchestra, which is when I decided it was my favorite piece.”

Music related activities take up most of Wolfe’s time, as she takes cello lessons, piano lessons, teaches two cello students, participates in the York Youth Symphony Orchestra and takes dance classes.

Wolfe says, “my favorite thing about playing music now is how rewarding the end product of a piece is. When you make a recording of something that you had been working so hard on and hear how far you have come, it is an amazing experience.”

Since music has been such a huge part of Wolfe’s life, she plans to go to college to either double major or major and minor in Cello Performance and Music Education.
