Insta-Novels: Books for the Social Media Lover
The New York Library has paired with the popular APP to bring free novels to the masses.
Over the summer, the iOS App Store featured the app Libby by Overdrive Inc. in an article on the main page.
This app allows people to read books from any library in the United States, assuming they have a library card.
It was game changer for book lovers.
Instagram has jumped on the bandwagon again with this, much like they did with “Insta Stories.”
Instagram has recently paired with the New York Public Library and Mother In New York to create something similar called “Insta Novels.”
The way “Insta Novels” works is that you go onto Instagram, search up the library’s username (@nypl) and view their highlighted stories.
Within the accounts highlighted stories, you have the option of reading many different books. As of right now, they have only started adding books.
The first one on the account was Lewis Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland.”
When you click on the story you can go through it like a normal Instagram story. If you allow the “pages to flip” without holding down to read, it creates a flip book.
The New York Public Library plans on changing out the stories in the highlighted section.
No one should worry, though, because the books will remain in the archived stories.
The library’s purpose for doing this is to hopefully expand and simplify the access of great novels.
Although he has not read any, Dallastown English teacher Mr. Morton can see the appeal.
“As long as they are reading, it doesn’t matter what they read on. Let them read!” Morton said.
