This award season has been filled with various amounts of talent, drama, and achievements. But most importantly it has been filled with the most unconventional, unique fashion.

The Grammys red carpet featured many different garments from whimsical color coordination to obscene style choices.

Alisha Gaddis is in a tree-inspired headdress. The seafoam green paired with the gold creates a goddess-like appearance for Gaddis. The puff, princess sleeve, the sweetheart neckline, and the ruffled bodice leading into the skirt, creates an innocent, soft look, yet paired with the headdress Gaddis gives off a powerful attitude through her gown. Fashion Club president Kaitlyn Wise says, “Alisha Gaddis’s Grammy look raised my eyebrow. I absolutely love the headpiece and the dimensions of the gown and the contrast that’s within the ruffles. However, I’m not that much of a fan with the bustier top, because I feel like it’s too basic.”

Billy Porter is in a Valentino suit. Porter wore a hot pink ruffled detailed suit, and a sheer shirt flowing into a train. The feminine touch Porter brings into his wardrobe fits his personality splendidly. The long hot pink gloves add to the boldness of the garment, creating a full monochrome look. The silver clutch, and silver platforms break up the outfit in an elegant way in order to see each detail throughout his suit. “The color is too bright, but I like the sheer top. It creates a beautiful silhouette as the sheer top leads down into a train,” Wise says.

Chrissy Teigen is in a Nicole + Felicia Couture ball gown. Teigen is in a hot pink, strapless ball gown. The bodice is ruffled leading into a dramatic floor length train with a flowing avant-garde design going across the front of the skirt. Teigen wore a pair of dangly earrings with no statement necklace to keep the attention on the remarkable gown. “Chrissy Teigen’s gown for the Grammys is different. I’m a fan of the bottom, but the top looks like my mom’s adjustable powder brush. It’s just not serving,” Wise says.

Doechii is in a Monsoori gown, and in Brian Atwood platforms. The gown is a high low style that I am not typically a fan of, however, the dramaticness of the gown brings a lot of texture to the garment. Doechii would’ve looked more elegant if the dress was a ballgown style, not high low. “Doechii’s Grammy gown reminds me a lot of Selkie’s dresses with the with the high empire waist. I’m a fan of the train and the waves the bottom creates and I think it fits her very well,” Wise says.

Doja Cat is in a Versace sheer gown. The teal, Marilyn Monroe inspired dress flatters Doja Cat’s silhouette effortlessly. From the hair to the accessories, everything complements the gown beautifully. The body suit underneath is a plain baby blue, teal color that is connected to the sheer overlay that makes up the rest of the gown. The sheer fabric consists of a shimmer. Fashion Club social media coordinator Brooke Jordan says, “I loved the hair and the dress. It felt like she was recreating an old cartoon show outfit. I loved the shape of the dress overall and the color. The sheer bottom exposed really pulled it all together. One of the best looks of the night.”

Donatella Versace is in a moss green dress and thigh-high boots. The mini dress looks stunning on Versace, as well as the coordinated monochrome thigh-high boots. As the dress has a mesh corset bodice, so the look doesn’t need much skin. So, Versace eliminates the skin in such an elegant way with the platform boots. The shoulders are in such a blunt, structured format. It gives power, and that is what Versace represents: Powerful women in business. “I honestly really loved it. I think someone like Donatella who has been in the fashion industry for as long as herself and is so important to it, it’s expected for her to dress well and that’s exactly what she did. She kept it true to her style, as well as embracing new style as well. I noticed a pattern of having sheer cutouts in the dresses this year, and I loved how she touched it up with lines of fabric going down it. But one thing, the bottom of the boots are not the most flattering. Overall, a really great look,” Jordan says.

Emonee Larussa is in a stunning sheer orange gown. The orange is Larussa’s color. Her skin tone pops, especially with the orange and white gloves, and pearl purse combination. Other than the pumps being black, I overall adore this outfit. Larussa pulled off the elegant, modern goddess look exquisitely. “TIMELESS!!! Totally channeling an early 20th century look with the pearls and gloves, a trend I have noticed at larger occasions as of recently. The dress itself is pretty plain, with a nice neckline and color, but the accessories and makeup pull it together. The gloves with the pearls add a nice touch to pull the theme together.  Her jewelry is bold, but just enough to not be overzealous. The head piece totally adds, especially the little suns which makes it feel so warm. And her eye makeup matching the color of the dress paired with little gems ties it all together. Overall an incredibly symmetrical and put together look,” Jordan says.

Giveon is a Chanel suit, and in a Judy Turner tank. The sparkles are the main focus of his suit, yet it isn’t overbearing. Usually celebrities go overboard with the use of sparkle, however Giveon is wearing a tasteful amount. The silver jewelry really pops as well against the sparkly suit. Giveon took a basic, classic black suit and made it unique by implementing his own personal style shine through. “Giveon went with a plain silhouette, but added rhinestones to make it stand out more, completely staying on trend with other red carpet looks. There’s not much that I can say that’s significant about this look though. The jewelry would’ve been a nice touch, but it’s not really that flattering. Not bad but not my favorite,” Jordan says.

Inanna Sarkis is in a sheer, sparkly, gray gown with a feathered mermaid skirt, and a clutch bag. The gown has a turtleneck, and is sleeveless which is an interesting combination. The turtleneck is a cover up factor, whereas the sleeveless shows skin. These styles together contradict each other, yet they both emphasize the best qualities creating a well rounded design. Fashion Club treasurer Mikayla Holdenried says, “An outfit reminiscent of Kylie and Kendall’s feather dress at the Met Gala, but with its own take! I like the longer train and mermaid shape.”

Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker are in a Givenchy suit, and Enfants Riches Déprimés x Jacques Marie Mage frames. Kardashian’s garment has an interesting shape to it and it flatters her chest well. Kardashian stayed on trend with the times as there are two side cut outs and she is wearing long, black, mesh gloves. Barker’s suit is actually quite different which goes with his aesthetic pretty well. I enjoy the flashy pink. It really stands out and we don’t get that too often on the red carpet from a masculine look. Couples on the red carpet typically have the feminine look be the flashy, avant-garde look while the masculine look is left in the dust: Unrememberable. The way Kardashian and Barker did it is different, and I enjoy the flamboyant style being more masculine. However, Holdenried has a different opinion: “Boring… the pink coat is cool on Travis, but why deprive Kourtney of a flashy accessory? There are shapes in the outfits, but it leaves the two shapeless.”

Lil Nas X is wearing a Balmain suit. He is covered with pearls in a high neck suit, and his suit is embroidered with butterflies giving his suit a pop of color throughout. Overall his suit is tight fitting, yet proportionate to his body. Typically I wouldn’t be a huge fan of this type of look, however Lil Nas X is known for this style, so he pulls it off effortlessly. In the future, I’d like to see something different from him. “Grandma’s quilt—nice and warm. It looks cool, but the cuffs look like a sweatshirt,” Holdenried says.

Olivia Rodrigo is in a Vivienne Westwood gown. Rodrigo is in her punk rock era and this dress is giving that. However, it isn’t my favorite. I enjoy the color combo because it really represents her style, but the gown looks cheaply made. The pink design is strategically placed to give shape and curves to Rodrigo, and it does her justice in that sense, but the pink design looks copied onto the fabric. If the pink would have texture Rodrigo would look more elegant and lavish. “To simply put it, it’s a grandma’s sexy bikini shirt, but luxurious,” Holdenried says.

Paris Hilton is in an Atelier Zuhra gown. The gown is a sheer nude with silver embellishments throughout. Not only does the gown have a beautiful train, but Hilton paired a high neck cape which flows down adding more volume to the train and character to the gown. The silver pops of Hilton, and she looks classy which is different from her typical chic looks. Fashion Club secretary Mak Mostert says, “Paris Hilton really rocked the Frozen vibe I got here. All but the color change was truly giving the magical Elsa persona here, and I’m here for it. Although the nude dress was slightly strange to me, we’ve already seen the shirtless suit, so can’t complain!”

Sofia Carson is in a Green Maison Valentino dress. The halter neck top is cinched at the waist creating a beautiful silhouette for Carson. The dress is quite plain, but the side cape sleeve gives a good dimension to the dress. “I’m not sure what to say about the look here other than Green Bean giant with a shoulder cape. This is likely biased since I am not personally a fan of green, but the dress is still pretty nice,” Mostert says.

SZA is in a Jean Paul Gaultier gown, and Messika jewelry. SZA’s gown reminds me of a field filled with flowers which fits her vibe perfectly. The gown hugs her beautifully while the bottom creates a short, yet elegant train. The train gives more definition to the gown as the colorful flowers are only placed across her neckline and down the center of her dress. Without the train, the gown would’ve been plain despite the flowers because once the flowers stopped there would be nothing except a mute nude color. Off the red carpet however, SZA was using crutches the rest of the night due to falling out of bed nonetheless. “SZA ROCKED the floral dress, not to mention the crutches as well! I applaud this queen for walking on crutches with the sheer drape trailing behind her, I could never. Well done,” Mostert says.

The Grammys showcased artists’ creativity through their garments. The red carpet led them into a night filled with multiple awards and recognition of the most vocally talented performers.

However, the highlight of the night to most people would have to be viewing their favorite artists iconic styles be featured in superior fashion.
