Mrs. Dixon
Following high school Mrs. Dixon attended York College to earn her bachelors of science in behavioral science with a minor in psychology. During her time at York College she worked at Weis Markets as a cashier, customer service representative, and a front end monitor.
Immediately following graduation from York College Dixon started working on her masters degree. She attended McDaniel College to receive her masters in School Counseling.
While she was in school for her masters she worked for Youth Advocate Programs, Inc. as a Therapeutic Staff Support (TSS). She worked in families homes and the school setting providing services for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders and Bipolar Disorder.
Dixon has been a guidance counselor for 14 years with every year being at Dallastown.
Her thoughts on student concerns: “I think the biggest fear is fear of the unknown. In my experience personally and in working with students, I’ve learned that if you have a plan you’re in good shape. You may need to revise that plan a number of times until you reach your goal and your goal may change over the years, but a plan is the first step and makes the subsequent steps a little less scary.”
Dixon recommends any student take the SAT or ACT no matter their possible future, she suggests to just try your best and see how you do. She shares you can use College Board, Khan Academy, or the SAT/ACT prep course at school.
For her students not considering college her biggest piece of advice is to stay motivated and put effort into the Naviance tasks to help find a cool job.
