Miss Long

Miss Long

Following high school Miss Long attended Millersville University to receive her bachelors in Psychology with a minor in Spanish. She continued her studies at Millersville to receive her masters in School Counseling.

Long has been a guidance counselor for five years.

Her thoughts on student concerns: “emerging adulthood/adjusting to a new environment/responsibilities. Being prepared and practicing life skills are things that our office stresses to students. Can you wake yourself up? make your own meal? do your own laundry? navigate a conflict? send emails? schedule appointments?, etc.  All of these things take practice and we are here to help students along their journey as they enter young adulthood. I think at times, students are under the impression that they need to have everything figured out prior to graduation. I think it is important for students to know that it is okay that they will not have everything figured out and learning to ask for help and utilizing their resources will serve them well as they begin their next chapter.”

Long recommends students who are interested in attending college to take the SAT or ACT. She shares that many schools are still test optional so it is important to do research on the university and their requirements.

Students can use Khan Academy for the SAT and ACT.org for the ACT.

For her students not considering college she shares that college is not for everyone and that is okay. It is important to explore many different pathways and finding the one that fits best is most important.
