Dr. Wabnik

Following high school Dr. Wabnik attended the University of Maryland as a Speech Pathology major however switched her major to Secondary Education and Spanish. Wabnik graduated from the University of Maryland after four years and earned a bachelors in Secondary Education.

She has been a guidance counselor for 10 years.

Her thoughts on student concerns: β€œMost of my students are concerned that they are not going to pick the “perfect” school or they will not be offered the “perfect” job right after high school. I try to remind them that the “perfect” option may not exist. There are often pros and cons for each option; however, making a choice that is the best one for them often leads to great opportunities. If for some reason it doesn’t meet their expectations, they can always make a change!”

Wabnik recommends any student interested in attending a four-year college to take the SAT or ACT and they can use Khan Academy or a summer program PSU York is offering as a prep course for the exams.

For her students not considering college Wabnik shares that there are so many opportunities out there that can lead to a fulfilling career. She recommends taking time to check out all the options and find the best one.

Dr. Wabnik also shared, β€œit is never too early to start exploring careers and post-secondary options. Come see your counselor to discuss the many opportunities that we can offer you!”
