The Found Wanderer
Dallastown graduate Kacey Royer found herself in creating and selling handmade jewelry
Not all who wander are lost.
Faced with life decisions, young adults often act as wanderers, trying to discover themselves.
Kacey Royer, a 2011 Dallastown graduate, found herself in jewelry design.
Royer is the independent owner of Found Wanderer, a handmade jewelry line that focuses on natural and raw beauty.
“I use a variety of crystals, stones, beads, and other ‘found’ objects to create most of my pieces,” Royer said. The designs typically have a golden aesthetic and center around warm hues and natural textures.
Royer designs and creates the jewelry at her home studio, then sells it on her Etsy shop and blog( www.etsy.com/shop/FoundWanderer and www.foundwanderer.com). Her pieces are also showcased on her Instagram @foundwandererjewelry.
An Etsy reviewer described the pieces as being “Absolutely gorgeous! Even more beautiful in person. Every time I wear these, I get compliments. They go with everything!”
So, how did Royer find herself, her business, and her blog?
“I have always been intrigued by the idea of creating something beautiful from nothing. As a child, I was always using my hands to create something bigger than myself,” Royer described.
Royer’s best memory from Dallastown was being on the dance team. However, during her senior year, she made another great memory: starting her business.
“I knew it was something that I wanted to develop and made sure to implement it into my daily routine, even as a student,” Royer said.
She went from selling her pieces to friends, classmates, and teachers, to now selling to celebrities.
Bachelor contestants Jade Roper, The Ferguson twins, Jasmine Goode, and Lauren Bushnell have all worn Found Wanderer.
After graduating with a Communications degree, Royer is now a full-time internet marketer at WebFX in Harrisburg in addition to running her business.
Her communications background led to the creation of her blog that focuses on her life as a jewelry designer.
“As an internet marketer who understands the necessity of building a personality behind a brand, it made sense for me to create a platform where I could introduce myself on a more personable level,” Royer said.
Creating connections and building relationships is a skill Royer advises students to develop in high school.
“[Building connections with my teachers] provided me with the interpersonal skills and connections that would be so beneficial to have later in life,” Royer explained.
Royer hopes her jewelry line will teach people that just because you wander doesn’t mean you are lost.
She said,“ I want my jewelry to be a way for me to ignite the warmth in others and inspire them to spread beauty into their own lives and others.”
