While most DAHS students have their AirPods in and are listening to music, junior Caleb Armstrong is the one writing and creating it.
Armstrong, also known as TAZMEL, began writing music in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Covid influenced that not being able to express myself to friends or not having peers, I felt like I was really alone with my emotions all the time,” Armstrong said.
TAZMEL’s genre is a diverse range of pop; he has released three singles, “Septa Bus,” “The Storm,” and “Me Again,” and an EP is on the way.
He participates in the choir, plays bass in the orchestra, and also participated in this year’s fall musical “Hadestown: Teen Edition,” playing Hermes, and hopes to participate in more productions.
Some of his music inspiration comes from Tate McRae and Billie Eilish.
Advice that he would give to new singers and songwriters is, “Listen and trust your gut because you’re gonna hear a lot of opinions from people, and a lot of people will try to steer you in different directions. Listen to how you feel. Find time to love yourself.”
