AI is a never ending topic in our current day in age and can be quite overwhelming for many. One interesting topic is the development of a new and improved model Sora 2. Many people know the general premise of AI programs like this. But not the story before and after the releases of these programs.
What is Open AI
Open AI is ironically a private company based in San Francisco, and is the creator of the student’s double edge sword Chat GPT.
Open AI was founded by Sam Altman and Elon Musk.
Musk left the company due to unsuccessful attempts to gain “primary ownership.”
When Musk Bought Twitter, he made an AI called Grok.
An important term to note is “AI slop,” which refers to a cumulative amount of AI garbage posted on the internet, on billboards and can pretty much be anywhere. It’s kind of like a Garbage pile, but instead of once serving a purpos,e it has absolutely no value in the first place.
Dallastown teachers are no strangers to the AI trends. In an interview with Business teacher Mr. Myers, I asked him who should be compensated on the usage of AI
“I don’t think anyone should be compensated for using a new tool. Now, for the people who are mastering it and creating it that is different. I think there should be trainers to teach and instruct the proper methods of using AI.”
So what actually is Sora AI.
Sora AI is like Tik Tok but AI slop replaces content in a nutshell.
You need a code to actually be able to get into the app itself. Due to the company going private back in 2015.
While not easy to tell, Sora AI has definitely a couple levels ahead, with hyper realistic videos, and resemblance to the source material given.
It’s not perfect, with, dialogue sounding inconsistent, oddly smooth movements but it is overall recognizable if you take the time to look, you will see these things in the videos that look wrong without explanation.
A community favorite are the introductions of cameos on the app. Cameos are a feature to include internet celebrities in AI videos. Some popular picks, like Jake Paul or internet streamer XQC and having them fly away in a hurricane.
It’s interesting to note that none of these celebrities actually commented on being used for cameos, in fact, a lot of these celebrities either have invented, partnered, or follow heavily in Open AI.
“Using AI with the idea of using an artist technology. Their skills or voice for example should not be utilized. One can ask how would “Mozart, write a particular piece” would be different as if to use Mozart as an example.” Mr. Myers says on using people on AI without permission.
What I found in the app
Sora AI has an invite only policy, the way to bypass this is to look up an invite code on the internet or through a friend, I chose the friend route.
I started off with creating an account, testing the AI prompt itself, and seeing what would work and what wouldn’t. The AI detection is extremely strict as of late. You see, AI builds itself off of learning what people input into it, so if it doesn’t have the data for more vulgar or “out there” content, it will not accept much of anything.
I even used a very interesting feature, importing myself as a private cameo. It asked me to say a sequence of numbers and to turn my head. Seems simple enough, but the semblance is only half there, as it is good with the face, the rest of the body the AI struggled with.
When it comes to the actual video itself I started off simple, a man drinking water or a woman walking her dog in a park.
After I learned what would pass and what wouldn’t I started to think about the effects all of this would have on the economy and the media. It turns out, its greater than many people think.
What Matters and what doesn’t
The thing is that AI doesn’t take many large steps with its innovation, in fact its little steps in a quick timespan.
So why does this matter? AI is such a different category in the innovation of technology, that it doesn’t exactly “flow” or “parallel” perfectly with other topics. Given that it is quite hard to casually keep up with the advancements in AI or technology.
“I actually am excited about AI as another thinking tool. I have used the internet a lot since its’ inception to develop numerous training modules and marketing platforms and production documents depending on what I was working on. Again, it is a tool. A very powerful tool. Use it as a tool and not the DO ALL say ALL of ALL subjects.” Mr. Myers on the prospects of AI.
Overall while controversial, Sora AI is just another huge leap in the world of technology. But I see little benefit to see this being useful for the average person. It is merely a gimmick to get things done quicker. While it may matter now, Sora AI will be an extinct relic of AI and technologies history.
