Dallastown’s Two Sport Twins

Juniors Nick and Logan Ungerland have played soccer and lacrosse together since childhood and now look to traverse the next level without each other for the first time.

Anyone who has grown up with brothers or sisters knows there is an inherent connection between siblings. Even more so with twins. And even more so when you spend as much time together as Nick and Logan Ungerland.

The two Dallastown juniors have spent their entire lives playing sports together. Growing up having played soccer and lacrosse for the majority of their lives, starting in elementary school.

“It’s been great. There has always been someone there for me and it also gave me some competition,” said Nick.

They came up often playing the same position as attack/midfielders in lacrosse and defensemen in soccer. This developed a chemistry that they have carried throughout the years into their junior seasons on the soccer and lacrosse fields.

“After playing with each other for many years, it is almost as if we are in sync with one another,” Nick said, with Logan saying, “We practically know what each other are going to do.”

However just before their sophomore season, the starting goalie for the lacrosse team would have season ending knee surgery, and with no where else to go, they called upon Nick to step between the pipes and try the position for the first time since childhood.

Nick was a natural, dominating to the tune of a 6.2 goals against average, 54% save percentage, and 3 shutouts on the year. But most importantly he’d be a catalyst for a regular season county championship.

Logan wasn’t too far behind getting his first touch of major playing time and racking up 34 points on 19 goals and 15 assists as well as being 4th on the team with 59 groundballs.

The two would both carry their success over into their junior soccer seasons, both playing large defensive roles on the varsity soccer team.

All the while they have continued to push each other to be the best in both sports.

“Having my brother around in sports makes things harder because whenever we go up against each other, we are both going to expect 100% effort from each other,” Nick said.

Them pushing each other has prompted results. Bringing them to soccer nationals with their club team and the state tournament in lacrosse.

“Both play without fear and have a great deal of confidence in everything they do,” said Dallastown Head Lacrosse coach Scott Toman on the boys.

They are great teammates willing to support and protect their fellow laxers.

Their confident and skillful style has led to them being recruited to play lacrosse at the next level in college, which both of them do want to do.

However the chances of continuing their run together are slight.

“It would be easier to go to college together but that most likely won’t happen,” Logan said.

“I would love to go to the same college as him, but I’m still going to have to prepare for the possibility of not having him go to the same school as me,” Nick added on.

Yet with the two’s immense skill set on the field as well as being great leaders and young men off it they’re ready to traverse whatever comes next.
