As you roam the main street of Dallastown, a bright new shop has filled a vacancy.
What once was Sweet Tooth Waffles & Munchies found in Red Lion’s Franklin Street Social, can now be referred to as Sweet Steer Munchies & BBQ… What happened?
Recently moving due to rent inflation, small businesses Sweet Tooth Waffles and Urban Steer have decided to collaborate. Offering a new creative bite to grab! Selling desserts, munchies and dinner choices together.
Let’s focus on Sweet’s story.
Their story begins in April 2024 after 14 years of stress in the nursing field, Ashley Hernandez found her comfortability in baking and cooking. Her husband Efrain, right there by her side supporting her dreams and building her a food trailer to fulfill them.
Their story comes from hard work and grit, putting together savings and working long hours to make this dream come true.
The inspiration behind this business stems from Ashley’s childhood memories spent with her grandmother.
“I grew up baking pancakes and waffles with my grandmother. I always loved waffles more so we decided who doesn’t like it and went with it.” Ashley mentioned.

Starting as a foundation, Ashley and Efrain used Nan’s original batter recipe and tweaked it themselves, creating the fluffiest belgium waffles!
When the time was right, they opened and were swept off their feet, serving happy customers and making a name for themselves. Eventually moving into Franklin Street Social and now collaborating with close friends, Urban Steer, found on 64 E Main Street in Dallastown.
With this big move into their own place struggles have been faced, but quickly are being overcome. This move brought a lot of stress, but also a lot of new faces and followers.
“First we found out that our electrical was terrible in this building which meant more money, more work and more time set back.” said Ashley.
This set back wasn’t enough to break them down though, as they always remember to follow their dreams.
Originally before rebranding with Urban Steer, desserts like milkshakes, dirty sodas, smoothies and custom belgium waffles were served. Now as weeks go by a new menu rises for Sweet’s , and with new movement comes new items! As the winter season approaches, so do new weekly desserts like cookies, fudges ,and even a snack for a furry friend!
“I went to Sweet Tooth when they still were at Franklin Street Social, trying one of their smoothies and it was delicious, it left me refreshed and energized.” Sevi Sacarellos said.
Alongside with Sweet’s menu, Urban Steer offers a variety of breakfast, lunch and dinners. Serving dishes from wagyu brisket to scrapple smash burgers.
This collaboration brings a full days worth of meals to enjoy, each operating separately in the kitchen , but using their delicacies to bring others together!
“I will always be Sweet Tooth Waffles and Urban Steer will always be Urban Steer, we have poured our hearts and souls out into our businesses.” Ashley states.
Creativity and individuality seems to stand out for this business. Unlike others, Sweet Steer plans on hosting game nights and events like Cards Against Humanity Night, karaoke, trivia and video games free of charge. Focusing on making their customers happy and full.
“Having families come to eat and play board games and have free fun and entertainment.” Ashley said when asked of the most rewarding thing of their business.
Having a child of their own, they know first hand what it’s like raising one, spending money, keeping them full and entertained. Their goal is to take the weight of stress off others shoulders and have some fun!
“We allow passion for everything sweet to guide us on an epic adventure, and we would appreciate the opportunity to share it with you.” says Sweet Steer’s Facebook.
Now, as it seems it’s only right to stop by Sweet Steer Munchies & BBQ and support a new, local, small business who’s ready to share!
