Hannaversary

The best of both worlds reunite Miley Cyrus and others in the 20th anniversary of Hannah Montana
Hannaversary

Hannah Montana had always been a fashion icon for my younger self as I grew up on 2000’s fashion. Her girly glitterly outfits with layered garments never failed to make heads turn and her pop-up makeup box was sure to make every girl watching jealous. Seeing this when I was younger, I knew I wanted to do everything like Hannah, down to her shoes.

Years later, I was excited when I had seen that Miley Cyrus has reuniting with some old cast members of Hannah Montana. Reviewing iconic and archival collections from her 2000s Disney wardrobe and showing an exclusive behind the scenes.

This classic series is a memorable staple for many young girls inspired by the early 2000’s fashion, music, and celebrity culture that they grew up with. Miley Cyrus and celebrity guest Selena Gomez grew up side by side with the young viewers, starring in the show at 15 years old.

The 20th anniversary special shows Miley Cyrus going all out for her fans. She journeys back to old sets, brings out her iconic wardrobe, signature blonde hair that’s no longer a wig, and even performs as Hannah Montana in front of a crowd that adored her for decades.

Hannaversary was something Miley was very persistent about, wanting something special for the fans of two decades including myself. Watching the anniversary with my younger sister felt like a full circle moment – showing how Hannah Montana was and still is an icon to many girls of all ages.

“And I feel like if I can get the fans behind me, as they always are, and show how much this is wanted. And so I just started talking about a Hannaversary before Hannaversary even existed,” Miley states in an interview with Alex Cooper on the special.

Hannah Montana was very authentic to who Miley Cyrus truly was at the young age she auditioned, which is how she knew she was confident with this being her first acting role. Being away from where she grew up and leaving her love of cheer behind was a big decision at such a young age, yet she knew to take the chance.

Her decision in pursuing Hannah Montana was very fitting for the character itself – her whole family moving from Tennessee to Los Angeles was a big step and risk in finding out who she was. This out-of-character personality really separated her talents from other auditions, almost seeming like she wasn’t playing a role and was really Hannah Montana behind the scenes as well.

“Girl, I got here in a miniskirt and flip-flop and never looked back. There was never one minute where I got to LA and was, like, homesick,” Miley states.

Celebrity guest Chappell Roan even got to sit down with Miley, praising her for her role as Hannah Montana and the inspiration she was to herself and many other little girls.

“You literally walked so I could run. Like, what I do on stage where I can, like, go on a red carpet and just be…,” Chappell says.

Hannah Montana’s style on the red carpet in 2012-2013 was a very bold and unforgettable taste at that time; it paved the way for many girls, including myself and Chappell to, be very bold in themselves.
