Many know that Dallastown has a reputation of impressive sports records and talented athletes. However, another notable sport that is not always in the spotlight is the girls’ tennis team.

Though people are unaware of how stellar the girl’s tennis team is here at Dallastown, it was quite an exceptional year for the girls. The team won the YAIAA Division I title for the fifth consecutive year, earned 4th place out of 49 teams, and were one spot away from advancing to states.

Along with the team’s success, star players Megan Salaga and Morgan Kistler also had a fantastic season themselves. The pair won doubles counties and placed fourth in district doubles. Individually, Salaga also placed fourth in singles counties.

The long hours of dedication and hard work have helped to bring them together as a strong and united team of close friends.

When asked what she loved about playing tennis, Salaga replied, “Playing every day with a great group of girls that have become some of my best friends, and playing the sport I have grown up with are probably the best things about playing tennis for the school!”

Former assistant coach, Melissa Kline, took the place of Debra Gable as the new head coach this year. Given the team’s many wins, it’s safe to say Kline has continued to lead the team to victory.

Assistant Coach Aaron Hare was a great addition to the team. “He has been our unsung hero this year as he has helped Kline lead the team to our many victories,” Salaga said.

“People may not know how rigorous the tennis season is for the girls. Sometimes we have 3 or 4 matches a week and when it comes time for the postseason, the girls end up missing a lot of school. The team stays dedicated to their studies and the sport,” said Hare.

Although many great seniors are graduating this year, Hare is certain the team will continue to be triumphant next season.
